This activity helps to explain how water gets from its source, to our homes, and back into the environment in a typical community water system. It is easily adapted for grades 4-12, and is recommended for outdoors or in an area that you don't mind spilling a little water.
The activity is divided into two parts: instruction and interactive. During the instruction you can use the poster (shown below) as a prop to describe the different stages that water travels in our community. For the interactive activity, students transfer water in cups (some with holes) while standing in a line (facing front to back) while raising the cups over their heads to pour. The idea is to demonstrate how some water is lost to inefficiency, leaks, and waste throughout the whole process.
The poster is a 24"x36" PDF file that you can download and have printed. I recommend that you mount the poster in a frame and place it an easel.
The poster file and activity instructions with script are available on the shared Google Drive folder <2019 4-H Water Ambassadors> <Games & Activities> <Community Water System>, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YgoJzA67fd4E3Qa7Wxs0awjiKvliq0ou.
