Carson Manning (Guadalupe County) assisted Miranda Lopez from the San Antonio River Authority teach kids about the San Antonio River Watershed, and how pollution affects animals and water quality. They used a water flow model to demonstrate water flow and how pollution can affect the whole river and the bays. There was also a lesson about Whopping Cranes and how important they are to Texas and North America. Did you know Whooping Cranes are also the largest bird in North America which they can grow up to 5 feet tall?
Carson also attended presentations and learned about the Geronimo and Alligator Creeks Watershed Protection Plan update given by Ward Ling, Rainwater Harvesting, and how to maintain your lawn. Carson learned how to use rainwater harvesting effectively and how to improve irrigation water use efficiency. He also learned how to test soil and determine the right nutrient application amounts.
Carson was also fortunate enough to win a rainwater harvesting barrel as a door prize! He plans to use it as a demonstration for future presentations.
Way to go Carson!
